The residence

Basalt Meadow House stretches along a natural terrace in the Wakatipu Basin, its low dark walls reading as an extension of the land. Snow peaks remain visible above the roof from every principal room, while sheltered courts hold calmer, more intimate views.

A central hall links the stone kitchen, double-height living room and library. Locally quarried basalt gives the house thermal mass; Douglas fir ceilings, wool textiles and brushed steel bring warmth and precision to the larger spaces.

Six suites are split between family and guest wings. The principal wing includes a private study, spa bathroom and covered hot pool. A separate two-bedroom lodge can host staff, guides or extended family.

The estate includes regenerative meadow, an orchard and a spring-fed pond. High-performance glazing, geothermal heating and battery-backed solar generation support reliable four-season operation without compromising the long, uninterrupted elevations.
